CARB is developing a medium and heavy-duty zero-emission fleet regulation with the goal of achieving a zero-emission truck and bus California fleet by 2045 everywhere feasible and significantly earlier for certain market segments such as last mile delivery and drayage applications. The ACF is applicable to truck fleets and truck purchasers.

EXEMPTIONS AND EXTENSIONS:

May purchase new ICE vehicle with California certified engine if the existing vehicle is 13 years old or more

ZEV purchase exemption
May purchase used ICE vehicle with a 2010 or newer engine to operate as a backup vehicle (ICE – Internal Combustion Engine)
Mutual aid exemption
Intermittent snow removal vehicle exemption until 2030
May postpone ZEV purchases temporarily
Infrastructure delay
