International® Trucks are well-known for a reason. Since 1902 the brand has made waves in the trucking and agriculture industries. Today, they continue to be a strong force for innovation and reliability. Our team at RWC Group is proud to carry International trucks and we’re excited to share a quick overview of their amazing history.

It Started With a Merger

In 1902, McCormick Harvesting Machine Company and Deering Harvester Company merged to form International Harvester. The company got its start in agriculture with its first engine-driven tractor being released in 1906, followed by their first truck the following year.

The vehicle was known as the Auto Buggy and was quickly accepted by the farming community as a great solution for rough road and field driving.

Releasing Several Series

Over the next several decades, International released several series of truck, evolving as the world did. In 1921, S series trucks were introduced and nine years later the A series was released to handle heavier loads for longer distances.

During the Great Depression, the style of International trucks changed to meet the times, and new models featured an aerodynamic appearance many people were drawn to.

The K series was introduced before WWII but had to be halted during war efforts. They continued production after 1945, and by the 1950s International was embracing exciting new changes. They embraced nostalgia by reintroducing cab-over trucks and celebrated their 50th anniversary.

Creating Collectibles

No one could anticipate how the release of models like the Scout would influence the auto industry years later. Many International trucks and commuter models are now highly sought after by collectors and individuals who admire the workmanship. The C-line and Scout were both introduced in 1961 and continue to have a lasting impact.

What’s Next?

International continues to be a popular brand in the commercial trucking industry. The company works hard to improve to meet the growing demand for efficiency, safety, reliability, and impact. However the industry evolves, it’s likely International will continue to be a leading name.
